Concussed Myself

I'm having a heck of a morning.

After I dropped Allie off at preschool, I took Brock to the new Target to go shopping for something. It's a really nice store with a grocery. I decided to buy some things for tonight's dinner. Meanwhile, Brock kept asking to visit the toy department, so we went there for a couple of minutes after I finished picking out groceries. We checked out, ran back to the car in the chilly pouring rain. My hood kept blowing off so I held onto it while pushing the cart and running, which was tricky. At the car, I fumbled for my keys and wished I had keyless entry. I secured Brock in his carseat, closed his door, opened my door to pop the trunk (as my key no longer works in the trunk), getting drenched and windblown the whole time, and as I closed my door, hunching over, the top corner of my door hit me square on the top of the head. I saw stars for a second, thought a few choice words, and threw the groceries in the trunk pell-mell and left for home as quick as I could so I could give Brock his snack and put ice on my head. Then I remembered I forgot to buy what I went there for in the first place...

Eeeek! More snow coming!

We're under a Winter Storm Warning until Friday evening here in the Madison area. 5 to 9 inches are expected.

The following is an excerpt from an email I just sent to a friend: "I'm tempted not to look at the snow -- maybe I'll just close our blinds, turn up the heat and we'll sit in our shorts and t-shirts and play games and eat popsicles. And if anybody says the "s-word" (snow), they have to watch one of my musicals with me while I sing LOUDLY to every song!!! HA! HA HA!!! :) Just kidding, of course. Hehehe.... With our crazy weather it feels good to have a sense of humor about it."

Gotta go and feed my ever-growing, constantly hungry kiddos!

Funny Quotes

I came across these quotes by Red Skelton last night that I just had to share with someone. Enjoy!

"I haven't spoken to my wife in 18 months. I don't like to interrupt her."
"Congress: Bingo with billions."
"I keep taking my wife everywhere -- but she keeps finding her way back."
"We always hold hands -- if I let go, she shops."
"I married Miss Right. I didn't know her first name was Always."
"All men make mistakes, but married men find out about them sooner."
"Any kid will run an errand for you, if you ask at bedtime."
"My mother told me something I've never forgotten: 'Don't take life too seriously, son, you don't come out of it alive anyway.'"

Influenza

Wow...Where have the last few weeks gone? Shane and I got over our cold viruses a couple of weeks ago that was probably influenza. The kids and I got our flu shots but apparently, it was the wrong strain and we ended up getting it anyway. Fooey.

Allison has had influenza this week along with impetigo, a very contagious but small rash near her mouth. She missed school this week and I missed three and a half days of babysitting (as well as the income I would've gotten from it). Oh, well. C'est la vie! (That's life!) She's doing much better now, but earlier in the week she had some awful coughing fits that went on and on as well as a fever that went up and down. The influenza really seemed to wreak havoc with her lungs. Shane and I took turns rocking her at night. She tested negative for strep. Now she's on two inhalers for coughing, children's Motrin for fever, an antibiotic ointment for impetigo, and a children's decongestant and antihistamine. It's been a long week and I myself am ready for my afternoon nap. (I put both kids down for naps at the same time. I actually nap with Allison in my bed, while Brock naps in hers.) Taking care of a sick child for a few days has left me a little run down. I can't tell you how many times she coughed in my face when I rocked her half asleep. My throat feels a little swollen and I feel tired. Hopefully, that'll be the extent of it, because I think I already had influenza this year.

Isaac has stayed healthy this week. He's been doing well in school, although he and a few friends got in trouble for goofing off in the bathroom this week and missed a whole day's recesses. He still enjoys his schoolwork, playing games of all sorts, collecting quarters, watching the Discovery Channel, and counting the days until his birthday (nine days). He's especially excited about his birthday falling on Easter this year, March 23rd. I think he's imagining a sugar heaven of birthday cake, ice cream, jellybeans and chocolate bunnies. He'll be six years old. I'm not throwing another big party for him this year, so we'll probably go to Chuck E. Cheese's as a family.

Take care, everyone, and if it's been awhile since I heard from you, please drop me a line! I'd love to hear from you!
